Okay, so I just tried reading Manga. I went out to Borders last weekend and I bought me a Cowboy Bebop manga book and ev'rythin. *nods*
But dude! I can't get a handle on this whole backwards thing! The book opens from left to right, not right to left! You read it from the right to the left, not the left to the right!
I'm so CONFUSED! *sob* I tried putting up with it, I really did! But then I'd get to the supposed end of the page and end up going backwards and ruining things for myself. And I'd go to turn the page, and end up turning back about six pages before I realize that I'm turning the pages the wrong way! And then I start thinking: okay, there are up-and-down panels on the left side of the page, and the right side of the page. Do I read the right two up and down panels first, or do I read the right up panel first and then the left up panel? The left panels seemed to coincide and the right ones did, but it was confusing when I read it that way.
And then I started wondering if there were other rules behind this whole manga thing. Perhaps you read it down to up? Everything else is backwards, why not this! Do you read the right page or the left page first? It's like OH MY HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!
I've never been so confused in my life! And it's sad, because if this stupid little BOOK is my downfall, then what's next, an eternal fear of condiments such as ketchup and mustard? Okay, so I admit that ketchup scares the living bejesus out of me. Are you happy? But the next thing you know when someone mentions the Easter Bunny, I'll end up cowering like some sort of bulemic on a bathroom floor!
What am I to do? I really don't get how all those guys do it! I really don't get how nerds like Mark do it when Mark can't even grasp the concept that apparently girls don't like it when you cheat on them! But then again, Mark also has an unhealthy obsession with wolves, and has been known to refer to his err... member as "the lone wolf" during make-out sessions. Maybe I shouldn't want to understand how Mark reads manga.
