A Place of Worship

I mark my progress
By the building of a church
In the west,
My heart lies there
Amongst the bricks and framework
Of a place of worship.

I grow with it.
I mature as a roof materializes,
I love as the foundation is poured,
I experience, I live with the growth-
The development of a place of God,
Of a place of worship.

And today, there are brick columns.
It has a steeple and windows
However it is far from completion.
Today I saw a flag flying free
From the belfry tower
Of a place of worship.

And I hate it.
A flag in a church- how absurd!
How passe, how lowly can we get!
Church and state were meant to be seperate
And I hate the symbolism that is
Of a place of worship.

A flag is symbolic of all that I see.
Of love, of life, of liberty.
Of the pursuit of happiness?
A flag that is a symbol of your
Precious freedoms and pathetic lies
Of a place of worship.

America is dead.
All that I see is contradictory
And all that I know is lies.
I see no freedom, I see no choice!
Yet I am a hypocrite too, just like
Your place of worship.

I am just as American as everyone else.
I proudly indulge in that so-called American Dream!
I too dream of Freedom, of Fame, of Fortune
The three F's of life.
Let us all take advantage of our first amendment rights
In a place of worship.

Let us whiten our teeth
Let us bleach out our hair
Let us starve ourselves in order to maintain an image.
Should you not speak up?
Would you send someone for help
To your place of worship?

Hypocrisy, Jealousy, Lies.
Lies.Lies.Lies.Lies.Lies.
Shall we continue on straight down our path
Straight to jail, straight to Hell
Can you save me just because
Of a place of worship.

I mark my progress
By the building of a church
In the west.
My heart lies there
Amongst the bricks and framework
Of a place of worship.
